A characteristic feature of the city of Hamburg are its canals, which are directly connected to the North Sea. The water level fluctuates here due to the tides, changing the appearance of the city depending on the time of day. Here, I captured a moment with particularly low water levels – based on a photograph of my own from 2016. The Nordic light plays a central role: It always has a certain coolness, even when the sun is shining. It was precisely this light and its special atmosphere that I wanted to capture.
